Welcome to my blog. Each week I will be featuring a poet or poetry collection that I love.
I recently discovered Sholeh Wolpé’s translation of poems by Forugh Farrokhzad, Sin. A well-know Iranian poet, her work was banned after the Islamic Revolution.
I am sure you will see why just by reading a stanza from “Sin,” the first poem translated in the collection:
Lust inflamed his eyes
red wine trembled in the cup,
my body, naked and drunk,
quivered softly at his breast.
A fascinating collection: Sin, Selected Poems of Forugh Farrokhzad, University of Arkansas Press, Fayetteville, 2007.
